A DOWN TOWN CATALYST
A Panama City developer has big plans to redevelop the waterfront.
"Developer Bob Blackerby has catapulted himself into Panama City's limelight with a brash proposal for City Hall: Tear it down, and he'll build a new one elsewhere at his expense.
Blackerby also proposes to provide the new site and $750,000 toward a new library, redevelop a blighted area near downtown, build an 18- to 20-story condominium tower overlooking the Gulf and beautify the adjoining public marina. The City Commission initially gave."
BUILDER STARTED FROM BOTTOM
Developer Bob Blackerby, a relative newcomer to Panama City Beach, is a man of his word.
So say members of Bid-A-Wee Beach Park Inc., a residents' organization that Blackerby promised, and delivered, a deed to 300 feet of waterfront property, long in litigation.
Blackerby bought the Fiesta Hotel on Front Beach Road in 2002 to build an upscale condominium project there. The title to the adjoining westerly.
SURGE
Condo developers are transforming Bay County's beach front.
Four years ago, developer Bob Blackerby came to Panama City Beach, eyed Bay County's waterfront and began buying up land - some $40 million worth. He helped lunched a 646-unit beachfront condominium, opened a restaurant
and started drafting plans for more projects on another 41 acres - all upscale developments. What's happening, he says is similar to surges of development years ago along Florida's southeast coast.
A FEW MINUTES WITH...
A few minutes with Karen Blackerby...
Just three short years ago, we were living in Mobile, our son was in his senior year of High School and life was good! At that point, the thought of moving to Panama City Beach had not
crossed our minds. However, Bob would return home nearly every week from his business travels in Northwest Florida and wanted to talk about Panama City Beach... the warm and friendly
people, the beautiful beaches, the casual and relaxed lifestyle.
BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR
